BSH Hellas to shut historic Rendi factory

The BSH Hellas plant at Rendi, near Piraeus, faces closure. One of the country’s oldest factories, it was renamed after Bosch-Siemens Hausgerate GmbH bought out Pitsos, a Greek company established in 1865.

The company’s management announced that the unit will operate for one more year and then shut down. A staff reduction scheme has already been launched with the aim of softening the impact of the closure.

The management informed the 250 employees that they could enter a voluntary exit program offering particularly favorable terms. The program started on October 2 and will be completed on November 10.

A statement said that “as of January 1, 2018, the factory in Athens will not be able to support the manufacturing of any of the Group’s products, and as a result of that the definitive termination of the operation of its production activity will be objectively necessary.”

It added that the group’s management is examining the temporary production of other products at the Rendi plant, namely Bosch ovens, after which the factory with a history that goes back more than 150 years will grind to a standstill.
