Municipal authorities looking at new hirings in 2017

Greece’s municipal authorities have submitted applications to hire of a total of 6,667 additional staff, with the majority of hirings pertaining to sanitation services, where payroll costs are covered by municipal taxes.

The hirings have already been approved by Interior Minister Panos Skourletis but need the green light from the Ministry of Administrative Reform so that they can go through by the end of the year and not be counted in hirings for 2018.

The majority of the new hirings are aimed at replacing municipal workers whose short-term contracts were not renewed due to a recent court decision ruling the practice unconstitutional.
