Greece will plug fiscal gap should one arise, gov't spokesman says

With mission chiefs in Athens to launch the third review of Greece's third international bailout on Monday, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said the leftist-led administration will plug any budget gap should one arise.

"If there is a fiscal gap, we will find a way to cover it as it is the obligation of the Greek side to be consistent in what it has agreed to," Tzanakopoulos told ANT1 television channel.

He expressed his confidence, however, that Greece would meet budget targets for 2018 "and there will be no demands for further measures."

Asked to comment on claims by outgoing German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble according to which Greece's creditors did not demand that Athens cut pensions, Tzanakopoulos declared that the outgoing minister was "trying to shake off the responsibility for all [the measures] he imposed."
