Resolve versus time
The leftist-led government has repeatedly expressed its resolve to conclude the third bailout review – a process that started in earnest yesterday with the arrival of the creditors’ mission chiefs to Athens – by the end of the year.
As much as it says it is committed to the process, however, the administration doesn’t appear to have prepared the ground sufficiently if the large number of prior actions that are still pending are anything to go by.
Greece has implemented just 20 percent of the milestones that it committed to in the third memorandum and there is very little time left to push these rather thorny reforms through and wrap up the evaluation within the year.
In short, if the government wants to do what it has said it will, it needs to get over itself and make sure that all of its officials are working toward the same goal.
