Mitsotakis praises police chief after terror arrest

The leader of the main conservative opposition New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on Monday contacted the chief of the Greek Police force, Lieutenant General Costas Tsouvalas, to congratulate him on the arrest of a 29-year-old terrorism suspect who has been linked to a series of letter bomb attacks.

According to sources, Mitsotakis told the police chief that, "when the Greek Police is allowed to do its job, it works with professionalism and effectiveness, when it is prevented we see phenomena on the street."

The ND leader's comments appeared to refer to a recent spate of crime in the capital in recent weeks and months, including a recent firebomb attack on a police precinct in Pefki, north of Athens.
