Authorities nab tax dodging meat traders

The financial crimes squad has identified a racket which imported meat from Bulgaria and provided it with forged Greek documents of origin, resulting in the state missing out on taxes of more than 225,000 euros.

The Patra branch of the financial crimes squad confiscated the tills of two enterprises which failed to declare meat sales worth 1.71 million euros between February 2015 and June 2017, having imported Bulgarian meat worth 1 million euros that they sold as Greek, according to the findings of a three-month investigation.

The businesses also submitted value-added tax statements declaring zero revenues, while the owners failed to submit any personal tax declarations.
