Spike in Turkish air space violations fuels concern

A spike in air space violations in the Aegean at the end of last week has fueled concern in defense and diplomatic circles in Greece, as authorities prepare for a visit to Athens next month by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to defense officials, Turkish aircraft carried out 60 violations of Greek air space on Friday.

Two of the transgressions were overflights by a helicopter over the islet of Imia.

The timing of Erdogan’s visit has yet to be confirmed but December 4 is believed to be the likeliest date.
