Tolerance and lawlessness

The situation with regard to the recurring attacks against the offices of PASOK in central Athens by groups of self-styled anarchists and so-called anti-establishment warriors is unacceptable and simply cannot go on.

It is nothing short of a miracle that no one has died in these mindless incidents, such as the attack carried out yesterday evening by what appeared to be a lone gunman.

Reports said he opened fire on a riot police bus stationed outside the Socialist party’s offices on the corner of Harilaou Trikoupi and Didotou streets in the heart of the capital.

The location of PASOK’s office is obviously of symbolic significance to some people. But it should also be of great symbolic significance to the Greek state, which simply can no longer tolerate entire areas of the capital remaining outside the bounds of law and order.
