Cyprus will reap benefits from its foreign policy

Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said Thursday that Cyprus has enhanced political and economic cooperation with Eastern Mediterranean countries and this will have a beneficiary impact on the stability of the region.

Speaking to a House Committee, Kasoulides outlined the significance of these cooperations and said that Nicosia will host a meeting with Egypt in November and Israel in January, and then Jordan, with the participation of King Abdullah II.

He added that Cyprus is an active participant in efforts to address issues that concern the region. Cyprus, he said, is participating in the coalition against terrorism and is helping in the effort against the so-called Islamic State.

Moreover, Kasoulides noted that Cyprus has strengthened relations with the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. He said ties with all five of them – US, Russia, China, the UK and France – are very important in Nicosia’s bid to reunify the island.

It is obvious, he stressed, that Cyprus’s problem must be resolved so that it becomes a normal and fully independent state – independent from guarantors and foreign troops – enabling it to exercise its various policies.
