Metro and OSE workers to ramp up protests

TAGS: Transport, Strike, Privatizations

Commuters in the Greek capital are in for another week of travel disruption as workers on the Athens metro have said they will make good on their threats to ramp up protest action unless the government scraps its plans to privatize operating firm STASY.

Services on metro lines 2 and 3 will not start until 9 a.m. Monday due to a stoppage by workers which will also affect Athens International Airport.

Services on the Kifissia-Piraeus electric railway (ISAP) are not expected to be affected.

Metro workers have also announced a 24-hour strike on Thursday that will also affect ISAP and possibly the tram as well.

Meanwhile, intercity rail services will face disruption on Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) workers demand better working conditions and stricter safety protocols.
