Most of the 65 CDs containing the data of 1.3 million taxpayers that the Hellenic Bank Association had supplied to the monitoring authorities are to be archived, following a decision by the Council of State, as the majority of cases are covered by the statute of limitations.

The country’s highest administrative court ruled on Wednesday that the data about taxpayers’ accounts at domestic banks do not constitute new information, so the statute of limitations covers them after five and not 10 years.

Therefore, out the transaction data on the years from 2000 to 2012 submitted by the banks, it is only the years 2011 and 2012 that can still be studied for any transactions above 300,000 euros that might point to hidden incomes. The law says that cases from 2006 to 2010 can only be investigated if new evidence concerning them comes to light.
