Justice minister suggests electronic foreclosures to go ahead

Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis indicated on Wednesday that electronic foreclosures will begin on November 29 as planned, following talks with Greek notaries who had announced earlier this month that they would boycott property auctions until the end of the year.

“We figured things out,” Kontonis said after a meeting with other government officials that followed talks with the notaries.

The various local unions representing notaries in different parts of the country are expected to hold meetings to call off the boycott in the coming days.

They had announced the action in protest at a spate of assaults on them, at courtrooms and at their offices, by anti-establishment protesters who oppose foreclosures.
