Thodoris Abazis has composed a new piece for the Greek National Opera’s program for children that is based on the Russian fairy tale that inspired Igor Stravinsky’s ballet “The Firebird.” Aimed at 5- to 12-year-olds, “Prince Ivan and the Firebird” (in Greek) tells the story of a young prince trying to prove his worth to his father the tsar, while also learning a few valuable life lessons along the way. Performances of the opera take place on November 19, 21, 26, 28 and 29, December 3, 5, 6, 10, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31, and January 2 and 3. Tickets cost 12 and 15 euros and can be booked via the GNO’s website (www.nationalopera.gr).
