Trial of Nov. 17 riot suspects postponed
The trial of 10 people who were arrested during last Friday’s street riots in the wider Exarchia area in central Athens was postponed until December 1 on Monday due to the absence of police officer witnesses.
The suspects – including two French nationals, an Italian and a Lithuanian – are charged with assaulting police officers, disturbing the peace and the illegal possession of flares during the riots that followed anniversary events marking the student uprising at the Athens Polytechnic in 1973.
Meanwhile, the condition of the lawyer who suffered a leg injury from a flare during the riots was serious but stable, according to hospital doctors on Monday. The 55-year-old was still in intensive care at Athens’s Evangelismos Hospital.
