Victims of unions

We ought to be outraged by the trouble Tuesday’s strike on the Athens metro caused for many thousands of residents of the Greek capital.

Motorists got stuck in traffic for hours and commuters were jostled and squashed as they tried to get into jam-packed buses because the metro unionists decided to call a strike for which there is absolutely no justification.

Moreover, they decided to go on strike even though the government has already agreed to grant some of their demands, which clearly belong to a pre-crisis era.

Their 24-hour action also came on top of several stoppages over the past few weeks that have already tested commuters’ patience.

The citizens of this city have a perfect right to be angry because every day has become a battle for survival and they cannot tolerate being put through the wringer every so often by a bunch of obsessed unionists.
