Man kills himself and his two children with house fire

A man and his two children died in a fire he started in the apartment where they lived in the Athens suburb of Nea Smyrni on Saturday morning, in what appeared to be a murder-suicide.

The 40-year-old air force officer left a suicide note that read: “I don’t know what to do with my life. I can’t take it anymore.”

Police said that he set fire to the ground floor apartment on Korai Street at around 6 a.m., leading to his own death and those of his two children, 8 and 10.

The father was divorced and had taken the children, who lived with their mother, to his home for the weekend. Police have launched an investigation.
