Skibbe confirmed for another two years on the Greece bench

Michael Skibbe will remain at the helm of the Greek national team for the next couple of years, after steering Greece out of ignominy and into the play-offs for a spot in the World Cup finals this month.

The Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that Skibbe will arrive in Athens on Thursday to sign his new two-year contract.

EPO added that a press conference will follow on Thursday afternoon, in which Skibbe is expected to outline his plans for Greece at the Nations League that kicks off next fall, as well as the Euro 2020 qualifiers that begin in March 2019.

The German manager may have been criticized for the poor performance Greece had in Zagreb where it lost 4-1 to Croatia in the play-offs, but he is credited for changing the mindset of the Greek players after the disgraceful campaign of the Euro 2016 qualifiers and for strengthening the team to take it to within one step from a third consecutive World Cup.
