Clashes erupt as foreclosed property auctions resume

Riot police used tear gas to counter dozens of angry members of the "I Won’t Pay" movement, the communist-affiliated PAME labor union and Popular Unity (LAE) party who descended on an Athens courthouse to stop auctions of foreclosed properties. One person was injured in the fracas. The auctions were supposed to get under way Thursday – after their suspension for several months – as part of Greece’s effort to meet key demands made by its international creditors. But the clashes led to their postponement. Online auctions, however, proceeded for the first time. [ANA-MPA]
