The future of the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) holds major challenges as well as huge opportunities that Greece could utilize, Tassos Chaniotis, director of Economic Analysis at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Agriculture, said in Athens on Thursday.

The Greek official stated that “the possibility of applying precision agriculture in Greece is no future talk. It is the reality. The most advanced sections of Greek agriculture are as advanced as in the rest of the EU.”

He added that Greece requires “a system to supply advice to agriculture professionals” that will plug the knowledge gap.”

Chaniotis stressed that “should such a system apply and utilize all the advantages and potential of the agricultural sector, in four or five years the picture of Greek agriculture will have changed radically.”
