Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was warmly received at the Celal Bayar school of the Muslim community of Komotini, following his attending Friday prayers at a mosque in the northeastern Greek town.
Although the crowd gathered under strict policing measures was smaller then expected, it greeted the AKP leader with fervor, chanting his name and “you are great.”
The school is located some 200 meters away from the Kirmahalle Mosque, inside which members of the Muslim community chanted “our leader, our leader” to Erdogan.
Later in the afternoon he is expected to address Komotini’s Muslim community leaders in the context of a working lunch.
Erdogan is now going to extend his visit to Komotini by about a couple of hours and leave at around 6 p.m. by air to Turkey.
