Politicians express condolences after death of Skai reporter Vassilis Beskenis, 43

Leading figures in Greek politics on Sunday expressed their condolences following the death of Vassilis Beskenis, a political journalist and commentator at Skai television channel who passed away of a heart attack in the morning at the age of 43.

"The sudden death of Skai journalist Vassilis Beskenis has filled the world of journalism with sorrow," leftist SYRIZA said in a statement.

"When a young person dies so prematurely and so suddenly it is difficult to find words," New Democracy said. "The journalistic world, and all those who knew him personally, are shocked," New Democracy said. "Vassilis stood out for his ethos, professionalism and his respectability but above all for his love of journalism," ND added.

Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis struck a similar tone, describing Beskenis as "a young person, a member of the journalistic family, a political reporter who, for many years, served his profession with moral standards and consistency."

Beskenis was married with a son.
