Conservative New Democracy maintains a 12 percentage point lead over ruling SYRIZA, according to a new opinion poll carried out by University of Macedonia for Skai TV which found that more than seven in 10 Greeks feel the country is headed in the wrong direction.

Asked how they would vote if elections were held now, 30 percent of respondents said they would support ND and 18 percent SYRIZA.

The new center-left party Movement for Change would garner 9.5 percent of the vote, followed by the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn with 7.5 percent and the Communist Party with 6.5 percent.

All the other parties, including SYRIZA’s coalition partner Independent Greeks, would fall below the 3 percent threshold necessary to enter Greece’s Parliament.

ND chief Kyriakos Mitsotakis was deemed the best choice to lead the country by 30 percent of respondents compared to 21 percent for Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

However, 46 percent said they would prefer “no one.”
