ANEL MP says will not agree to use of word ‘Macedonia’ in new name

Dimitris Kammenos, an MP of Independent Greeks (ANEL), SYRIZA’s right-wing coalition partner, has said he will not back a solution to Athens’s name dispute with Skopje that contains the word “Macedonia.”

During an interview with Antenna TV on Wednesday, Kammenos was asked if he would support in Parliament a solution that would include the term “Macedonia.”

“I will by no means vote [in favor],” said Kammenos who is not related to ANEL chief Panos Kammenos.

“The viability of that state depends on Greece. If they want to join NATO, it is them who will have to step back, not us. We have nothing to discuss about ‘Macedonia’,” he said.
