Former conservative MP and minister Petros Alivizatos dies aged 76

Former conservative MP and deputy tourism minister Petros Alivizatos has died at the age of 76.

Born in Athens in 1942, Alivizatos was first elected lawmaker with New Democracy on the Ionian island of Cephalonia in 2004. Between 2011-2012, he served as deputy minister for tourism in the interim coalition government led by ex banker Lucas Papademos.

Alivizatos is survived by his wife and three children.

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his condolences to the family of Alivizatos, describing him as “an honest, humble and dignified” politician that served his country and party with distinction.
