Karvounis appointed special advisor to EU Commissioner Moscovici

Panayiotis Karvounis, the former head of the European Commission’s Representation in Athens, is appointed Special Advisor to Pierre Moscovici, the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs.

The position is considered crucial due to the decisions the Commissioner has to coordinate in the next few months regarding Greece’s issues.

Karvounis told Kathimerini that this position is a great honor for him as Moscovici will have only one advisor and this post will be fulfilled by a Greek official. “I feel honor and joy that I can offer my services to Europe and Greece,” he stated.

Karvounis retired in end-November, handing over his chair of the Commission’s Athens office to Georgios Markopouliotis, the former head of the representation of the Commission in Cyprus.
