United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix was in Cyprus Wednesday for talks with government officials, local authorities and community representatives.

An announcement by the UN Peacekeeping Force on Cyprus (UNFICYP) Tuesday said that, during his two-day visit, Lacroix would be received by the special representative of the secretary-general and head of mission, Elizabeth Spehar, and UNFICYP’s force commander, Major General Mohammad Humayun Kabir.

The statement also said that he would meet with members of the diplomatic community and the Committee on Missing Persons and would address an event to mark International Women’s Day.

UNFICYP’s mandate on Cyprus was renewed last month for a further six months by the Security Council, which also endorsed the implementation of the secretary-general’s strategic review recommendations to ensure that the Mission is optimally configured to fulfill its mandated tasks, the announcement concluded.
