Security on Philopappou

A 25-year-old man lost his life on Wednesday night after falling off a cliff on Philopappou Hill in the heart of Athens.

He was a victim of muggers and it makes no difference if he fell off the cliff because he took a wrong step during the incident or if he was pushed by the robbers. This is for the judicial authorities to investigate.

The fact is that there was loss of life in an area where robberies are not uncommon as it is frequented by tourists, couples and young people looking for some tranquillity away from the bustle of the capital.

The police have a responsibility to provide security in the area.

To put it more bluntly, law enforcement has an obligation to clean up the area, as the prevention of crime is also part of the job description of police officers.
