Athens hosting EU-Arab World Summit

The Greek capital is hosting the third EU-Arab World Summit, which will focus on strengthening regional cooperation and accelerating existing initiatives.

The meeting, on Monday and Tuesday, aims at developing proposals on how to respond to the challenges facing both EU and the Arab world and exploring the opportunities that emerge.

Heads of states, senior EU officials, ministers, scholars, influential business leaders, and other representatives from more than 30 countries will be participating at the summit, held at the Athens Concert Hall.

Opening remarks will be made by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Deputy Prime Minister of the State of Palestine Dr. Nabil Abu Rudeineh, Moroccan Minister Delegate to the Head of Government, Lahcen Daoudi, Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl, Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic, EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs & Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos, Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu, Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar and Maltese Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Minister Carmelo Abela, among others.

Speakers also include chief EU spokesman Margaritis Schinas, the President of Cyprus' Democratic Rally (DISY) Averof Neofytou and Greek opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
