Only half of new Greek graduates are employed

Greek university graduates have the lowest rate of employment in Europe with only half of new graduates currently working, according to a study by British educational institute The Knowledge Academy.

Just 52 percent of Greeks aged between 20 and 34 who got their degrees in the past three years now have a job.

They are followed by Italians (55.2 percent) and Croatians (65.9 percent), the report found. Graduates hailing from Malta, Germany and the Netherlands top the chart with more than 90 percent of them currently working.

Czech, Austrian, Luxembourg and Swedish graduates are the next most fortunate, employed at rates of 89.9 percent, 89.4 percent, 88.5 percent and 88.3 percent respectively, according to the report.

Last year, the European Commission said that most European Union member-states had achieved progress as regards the employability of new graduates, setting the target rate for 2020 at 82 percent.
