Journalists’ drinks tab trial set for October 22

Journalists’ drinks tab trial set for October 22

Two journalists will stand trial on charges of forgery after they allegedly signed for drinks at a hotel bar in 2016 using the name of an aide of then-minister of state Nikos Pappas, who was leading a Greek delegation in New York to prepare a visit by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

According to the lawsuit filed by Pappas’ aide at the time, Giorgos Christoforidis, the two journalists, who were working as correspondents for television channels Alpha and Star, followed the delegation while trying to disguise their identities with wigs.

They allegedly charged the drinks to Christoforidis at the bar of the Westin Grand Central hotel where the delegation was staying.

The trial date has been set for October 22.
