Eight migrants hurt when high winds topple tree

Authorities in southern Greece say eight migrants have been injured by a fallen tree caused by high winds north of Athens.

The incident occurred Wednesday at a camp for migrants and refugees in Inofyta, 60 kilometers (37 miles) from of the Greek capital.

The Fire Service said the fallen tree had struck a tent inside the camp, adding that two of the injured were children. All of the injured were hospitalized.

Greece has set up dozens of camps across the country following 2016 agreements that limited travel of asylum seekers to other European Union countries.

The strong winds Wednesday, combined with temperatures of 37 degrees Celsius (99 degrees Fahrenheit), fanned three large wildfires in southern Greece.
