The right timing

It was unanticipated but not ominous – as foreign news media are more interested in the good news about the Greek economy.

The news about Greece’s spectacular bond rally – with yields on the 10-year benchmark dropping below 1 percent for the first time ever on Wednesday – grabbed the international headlines. At the same time, the Greek media were dominated by developments in the migrant crisis.

The contrast might be interpreted as a sign of a more extroverted attitude in the sense that it has succeeded in exporting the good news. It is the kind of mood that will attract foreign investment.

The economic climate has changed. Greece must take advantage of this fact and make the daring steps which are needed to also change the reality on the ground.
