Development Minister Dimitris Sioufas…

Development Minister Dimitris Sioufas (right) met yesterday with the MIT professor and first chairman of Greece’s National Energy Council (from 1975 to 1978), Elias P. Gyftopoulos. Sioufas said the ministry will heed Gyftopoulos’s recommendation and use the term ‘inexhaustible energy sources’ instead of ‘renewable energy sources.’ Gyftopoulos said, ‘There is great potential in preventing wastage in houses through insulation, or in machinery used for heating.’ The Ministry of Development said it will launch a monthlong information campaign this Sunday by distributing two leaflets throughout Greece, printed with simple methods of saving energy. In addition, a scientific secretariat is to be set up to study energy problems.
