Popular shows back on stage

A scene from Theophile Gautier’s ‘La morte amoureuse,’ directed by Katerina Evangelatou, which is being staged for the third year.

Successful stories continue: Katerina Evangelatou is staging Theophile Gautier’s short story “La morte amoureuse” at the Eisodos Kindynou stage of the Spyros Evangelatos Amphi-Theater for the third season. It is the stage that she established herself, attracting younger audiences to the theater her parents founded.

“La morte amoureuse” is the play that many people first saw Stefania Goulioti perform in, long before Peter Stein’s “Electra” at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus. The play opened last week and will only run for a limited number of shows, with Nikolas Papayiannis, Christos Malakis and Tassos Dardaganis starring alongside Goulioti. The sets and costumes are by Constantinos Zamanis and the music is by Stavros Gasparatos.

Another successful performance that is being repeated, this time musically oriented, is Hara Kefala’s show at the Angelon Vima Theater, which reopened this week and is once more running Mondays and Tuesdays. Vocalist Kefala is joined by pianist Evgenia Karlafti, who was also in charge of the orchestration, in a musical journey featuring an empty stage, a microphone and a piano.
