One of the season’s most popular exhibitions has now been extended and enriched.

“Toulouse-Lautrec & the Belle Epoque in Paris and Athens,” currently on show at the Herakleidon Experience in Visual Arts Museum in Thiseion, has brought no fewer than 27,000 visitors through its doors. This is an impressive number for a smaller-scale museum, a venue that has succeeded in making a name for itself in the limited time it has been open by showcasing impressive collections.

The show’s popularity as well as the 14 new additional pieces in the museum’s permanent collection is the reasoning behind the decision to extend the exhibition until October 5. The new works will be added to the existing display on May 5 – a day the museum is closed to the public. Among the new collection are three rare posters: “Babylone d’Allemagne” (1894), “May Belfort” (1895) and “Divan Japonais” (1893). There will also be changes within the so-called “Greek” section. Next to the 100 original works by Toulouse-Lautrec (posters, etchings and sketches), all part of the museum’s collection, runs a parallel narration of the Athenian Belle Epoque. This is section has mainly been contributed by the Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive (ELIA), the Photographic Archive of the Benaki Museum,and the Alpha Bank Art Collection. Furthermore, the Petros Vergos collection on display will be enriched, while the show will also include works from the archives of collector I. Spandonis.
