Three days of fun start tomorrow with Children’s Book Day. Once again, the National Book Center and Athens Municipality have cooperated to put on a three-day celebration at Technopolis in Gazi. There will be games, theater, story-telling and audiovisual presentations. Popular authors will attend to meet their young readers and sign books, and 45 publishers of children’s literature will have their wares on sale.

The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) established Children’s Book Day in 1966 to commemorate the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen on April 2.

Every year, a different national branch of IBBY is responsible for preparing the slogan and poster that is distributed to members worldwide. This year it was the turn of the Greek branch of IBBY, the Greek Children’s Literature Circle. Angeliki Varella wrote the message “The light of books” and Nikolaos Andrikopoulos designed the poster.

“Books are more than Literature” is the title of an exhibition opening today at the Stoa tou Vivliou book arcade. Organized by the Panhellenic Federation of Publishers and Book Sellers, the exhibition runs till April 6.

Greek women in Greece or abroad are invited to submit short stories written in Greek for the Laskaridion literary award. The deadline for submissions is September 31, 2004.

Entries should be eight to 15 pages long, and be submitted in four copies and under a pen name.
