Theodorakis leads artists in aid of fire-stricken Peloponnesian residents

Mikis Theodorakis will travel around Greece to express his support for fire-stricken regions.

Composer Mikis Theodorakis, performer Lakis Lazopoulos and the Mikis Theodorakis Popular Orchestra are to travel around the country to express support for the areas in the Peloponnese devastated by the terrible wildfires of last summer.

With the hope that music and art can soothe the ugly effects of the fires, concerts will be held at Pyrgos on Wednesday and in Kalamata the following day. The orchestra will share the stage with many well-known musicians and music lovers, including singers Sofia Vossou, Doukissa and Mary Linda as well as actor Grigoris Valtinos.

The last stop will be Thessaloniki’s Palais des Sports, which will host the biggest concert of all on March 12, with proceeds going to those affected by the fires. The last concert will see the participation of more than 20 well-known artists, all of whom will perform for free.

During all three concerts, works by 40 Greek artists who were inspired by Theodorakis’s work will feature in the background. Participating artists will include Tassos Pavlopoulos, Pavlos Samios, Nikos Alexiou, Petros Zoumboulakis and Alekos Fassianos. The exhibition was curated by Yioulia Gazetopoulou.

The event is sponsored by Interamerican, as part of the “Acts of Life” program.

Tickets for the Thessaloniki concert can be purchased on tel 2310.277.004.
