Dimitris Eipides studied English literature and theater at the University of San Francisco and stage direction at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. He is also a graduate of the London School of Film. In 1971, he founded the Montreal Festival du nouveau cinema which he directed for 14 years. He is still director of its documentary section and general program adviser.

Eipides has been senior international programmer of the Toronto Film Festival since 1988. Between 1992 and 2005 he directed ?New Horizons,Ó the more alternative section of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. In 2005 he was named program director for the International Film Festival of Iceland.

He has been a member of international juries at various festivals including those of San Sebastian, Istanbul, Avignon, Jerusalem, Moscow, Sochi, Philadelphia, Seoul, Singapore, and Bilbao.
