ARTS & LEISURE
A multinational play in ‘Silence’

“Silence,” which opened recently at the 104 Kentro Logou & Technis and will run to December 14, is the latest production by the Vasistas company.

Vasistas was founded in 2005 by young people of different nationalities, with the aim of producing and promoting theater performances that would go beyond borders and would open a contemporary dialogue in the dramatic arts. Its international character is prevalent in its latest work. The four leading actors are from Mexico, France, Greece and Croatia and on stage speak English, French, Spanish and Croatian, which are also translated into Greek.

“Silence,” which unravels in rhythmic narration, was inspired by St Francis of Assisi as well as Nikos Kazantzakis’s novel “God’s Pauper: St Francis of Assisi.” The director of the performance, Argyro Chioti, has explained that the company tries to overcome the barriers of language, and the norms of culture and theater, as well as viewing every restriction and difficulty as a new and interesting area of research. In “Silence,” narration alternates with the action and the music has a defining role.

The texts were written by Denis Forgeron, who also adapted them for the stage. The play stars Naima Carbajal, Ariane Labed, Roza Prodromou and Boris Kadin.
