Three archaeological sites around Corinth will host classical concerts

The archaeological sites around Corinth are preparing to welcome the enchanting August full moon with classical music.

This Saturday, the combination of moonlight and melodies are sure to create a memorable night.

Three Austrian ensembles are scheduled to perform at the same time, at Ancient Nemea, at the Temple of Octavia in Ancient Corinth and at the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Sicyon.

In Ancient Nemea, the Acies Quartett will perform compositions by Haydn, Schubert and Debussy. Founded in 2000 by music students, the ensemble won the Musica Juventus competition in Vienna in January 2008.

The Trio Tritonus ensemble, consisting of violinist Kathrin Lenzenweger, cellist Philipp Comploi and pianist Maria Mylaraki, is set to perform works by Haydn, Beethoven and Mendelssohn at the Temple of Octavia.

At Sicyon, Vienna’s Art of Brass ensemble will present a mixed program: The first part of the concert will feature works by Monteverdi, Anthony Holborne, Handel and Bach while the second part will be dedicated to contemporary melodies, with compositions by Piazzolla, Miles Davis and Jonathan Sass, among others.

On Saturday, the archaeological sites of Nemea and Ancient Corinth will remain open from 8.30 p.m. to midnight. Concerts will also take place at other archaeological venues around the country on the same night.
