Acclaimed pianist to perform on Saturday

Cypriot pianist Martinos Tirimos will give a recital at the Athens Concert Hall this coming Saturday. The program he will present will feature compositions by Schumann and Schubert, as well as the world premiere of Periklis Koukos’s “Tragoudia dihos logia” (Songs Without Words).

“Songs Without Words” is a series of compositions for piano which borrows its name from Mendelssohn’s series of the same title. The three pieces, titled “Anoichtomatis ypnos,” “Lirologimata” and “Mesa stis thalassines spilies,” are based on the poetry of Angelos Sikelianos and George Seferis.

The rest of the evening will comprise eight of Schubert’s “Dances for Piano” as well as his “Piano Sonata No 21, D 960” and Schumann’s “Fantasy, Op 17.”

The pianist, also a composer and a conductor, was born in Cyprus and studied in London and then in Vienna.

The piano recital will start at 8.30 p.m. and will take place in the Friends of Music Hall.

Athens Concert Hall, 1 Kokkali & Vas. Sofias, tel 210.728.2333.
