ARTS & LEISURE
Vertigo and Diamonds coming to shake up Halandri arts center

The group will perform Friday to Sunday at the American-Hellenic Arts Center.

Modern dance is about to meet rock music in a powerful performance at the American-Hellenic Arts Center in Halandri (53 Garyttou, tel 210.639.3341). The Jerusalem-based Vertigo dance company and the Diamonds music ensemble will perform the “Power of Human Relations” this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The dance theater production, choreographed by Noa Wertheim, features seven dancers and five musicians. It explores issues that everybody can relate to, namely love, jealousy, abandonment and life in general. With sensitivity but also a dose of cynicism, the skillful dancers will take the audience on a challenging journey and will reveal secrets, insecurities and hidden desires in an atmosphere that resembles a club, due to the intense music played by the Diamonds.

The Vertigo dance company was founded by Wertheim and Adi Sha’al, who are also partners in life, in 1992. It has performed both in Israel, which boasts a well-known contemporary dance scene, as well as around the world and has enjoyed collaborations with various artists. Wertheim and the company have received a number of awards, including the Landau Performing Arts Prize in 2003 and Israel’s Cultural Ministry Award for three separate years.

“The Power of Human Relations” features dancers Yaron Shamir, Yair Barelli, Carmi Zisapel, Vladimir Zak, Maya Resheff, Inbal Aloni and Rina Wertheim. The Diamonds music ensemble consists of musicians Ran Bagno, guitarists Ido Agmon and Eran Weitz, bassist Oded Shechter and drummer Uri Tehelet. Shows start at 8.30 p.m. and tickets cost 30 euros, 15 euros for children and students.

Tickets: Ticket Services (39 Panepistimiou); by phone on 210.723.4567; online at www.ticketservices.gr.
