Platonos at the Herod Atticus

Lena Platonos presents songs from her 30-year career at the Herod Atticus Theater tonight.

People who listened to the songs of the popular radio show «Lilipoupoli» as children grew up to become teenagers who fell in love while listening to Lena Platonos's «Sabotage.» Some of them encountered Platonos later on as well, in the electronica scene of the 90s.

All the things that her avant-garde electronic music masterpieces had predicted years ago, turned to reality: from immigrants and computers to lonely lives in the big city. Platonos learnt from Hadjidakis how to take urban mythology and turn it into melody and how to create landscapes of loneliness out of 1970s rock music.

Platonos is credited with a 30-year music career, which she created on her own terms and in her own time. She gave us the myth of the wandering prophet, without intending to do so.

In tonight's concert at Athens's Herod Atticus Theater, her very first show at the ancient venue, she will take the audience on a journey through her own world, accompanied by various friends of hers including Yiannis Palamidas, Constantinos Beta, Elli Paspala and Martha Frintzila. Angelos Mentis is the performance's artistic director and set designer.

Herod Atticus Theater, Dionysiou Areopagitou, Acropolis. Tickets can be purchased at the Greek Festival box office (39 Panepistimiou, tel 210.327.2000).
