Two nights of gospel at Thessaloniki Concert Hall

The Chicago Mass Choir will perform gospel and carols tonight and tomorrow.

What would the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations be without music and singing? And what better way to enjoy the season than with a festive gospel concert by the Chicago Mass Choir?

Following a long tour of Switzerland, the ensemble is scheduled to give two concerts in Thessaloniki. African-American melodies as well as classic Christmas carols will fill the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (Ikostis Pemptis Martiou & Paralia, tel 2310.895938) tonight and tomorrow.

The choir consists of 25 vocalists who put their hearts into their live performances in a fascinating show. The magic of the choir’s music goes far beyond religious audiences, something that is not surprising, given that the gospel tradition may have begun in church, but has managed to touch many different cultures with its universal messages of love, peace and solidarity.

Founded in 1988 by James C. Chambers, the award-winning Chicago Mass Choir has released 14 albums to date.
