Mobilizing against fresh terror threat

The threat by Greece’s Revolutionary Struggle guerrilla group to step up attacks against the authorities has plunged the government and the police into deep reflection. Most experts agree that the militant organization, which appears to have inherited the mantle of the now-defunct November 17 terrorist group, is organizing a more spectacular and lethal strike.

There is widespread concern that Greece once again faces a terrorist threat, with all the familiar ramifications for society and the country’s image abroad. But being concerned is not good enough. The Public Order Ministry and police authorities must overcome the lethargy that followed the crackdown on November 17 by making use of all available evidence, accelerating the pace of investigations, maximizing security around possible targets and cooperating with foreign intelligence services.
