Finding common ground

Greece’s two main parties have to reach a consensus if they really want to solve some of the big problems that are plaguing this country.

Greece is in crisis and this can only be overcome if ruling New Democracy and opposition PASOK join hands.

The country’s voters can only feel disappointment and frustration when they see that Greece’s main political parties have been reduced to exchanging barbs and accusations on such significant issues as education reform, the global financial crisis and the state of the local economy as well as the resurgence of terrorism.

People would much rather see politicians sit down at the table to discuss the measures and programs they agree on.

In what is a great shame for the country, political spin doctors are always against any sincere attempt to find common ground.

As a result, neither the ruling conservatives nor the Socialists have had the courage to implement or propose any bold measures.

However, patience among voters is running out. And that could have serious consequences for our political system at large.
