Teachers passing the test

A recent survey on what teachers think of the external evaluation of their work by assessors has produced some very encouraging results.

The measure, contrary to what many would have had us believe, is quite popular, particularly among younger teachers. The only condition that they demand adherence to is that the assessment process is carried out in accordance with objective criteria.

The findings of the opinion poll appear to confirm that the usual reactions of union leaders, who resist any kind of change to the status quo, do not reflect the views of the majority of those who are responsible for the education of our children.

It is high time that some kind of assessment procedure was introduced at all levels of Greece’s education system, including at universities, so that we can finally put an end to the mediocrity imposed by those who benefit from the absence of meritocracy while treating teaching as a job on the side that gets in the way of whatever else it is they want to do.
