Time for hands-on spade work
Our politicians are here to solve the country's problems, not deal with the political process per se. Politicians must focus on the needs of greater society, not with the balance of power. Political procedures are a tool for improving the people's living standards; they must by no means become an end in and of themselves.

A grim forecast
The annual presentation of the state budget reminds us of the old saying about second marriages being the triumph of hope over experience. In life, a second chance might be all one needs to get it right, but in drawing up budgets, our governments have managed to get things wrong time after time. They have never managed to meet their own forecasts. (Which raises the question of why they bother - is it the triumph of ritual over substance, perhaps?)
