Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

ELECTION CAMPAIGN: As preparations for drawing up the final lists of candidates for the parliamentary election ended yesterday, the campaign begins in earnest today for an election that by all accounts looks likely to give the Greek Rally party an overwhelming victory. PLASTIRAS AND EDA: In response to a note from the United Democratic Left (EDA) suggesting to Mr Nikolaos Plastiras that the two parties cooperate in the election, the EPEK leader said, among other things: “(...) I am not able to accept EDA’s proposal to cooperate.” RAILWORKERS’ STRIKE: Volos, October 31 - This afternoon the railway workers of Thessaly staged a two-hour work stoppage in protest at the tragic circumstances in which they have been left by the railway company and the State. The workers are threatening to go on an open-ended strike if the current situation continues. ANIMAL MARKET: Turnover at the Karditsa fair, which began last Sunday, was far from impressive this year, in contrast to the animal market, where sales proved to be most satisfactory. The municipality is reported to have earned about 40 million drachmas from the sale of animals. ABATTOIR IMPROVEMENTS: Piraeus Mayor G. Andrianopoulos has announced that the municipal abattoirs have been equipped with two of the latest German machines for the inspection of pork.
