Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

POUJADISME GREC: The Interior Ministry has sent a circular to all heads of prefectures, public prosecutors and court judges informing them that the following 13 political parties have submitted candidates for the elections of February 19, 1956: (...) the Poujadist Party of Greece, headed by Socrates Papadopoulos (...). (Ed. note: The bookseller Pierre Poujade [1920-2003] founded the Defense Union of Merchants and Manufacturers [UDCA] in France in 1953 and had won about 50 seats in the elections of January 2, 1956, under the main slogan of protecting small merchants from the tide of modernization. His populist movement slowly disappeared from French politics, however, and Poujade himself died in obscurity.) RALLIS AGAINST KARTALIS: Mr Georgios I. Rallis, responding to statements by Mr Georgios Kartalis, has made the following announcement: “I refer Mr Kartalis to the military recruitment bureau, where he will see that I have served in the military for 66 months, of which half were spent on the front line under fire. This means a struggle against the occupier, much greater than Mr Kartalis’s struggles for freedom (...).”
